The following are some quotes from a book I read over summer, and that I am currently about to finish my re-read of now. Its a book about spirituality and God's hand in all things, the good, the bad the ugly, the things we rejoice in and the things we fear or loathe.
I loved it, felt totally challenged, yet quite relieved by who God is, and who I am in relation to him.
The book starts with a poem that my all time favourite Subsaharan African book "Things Fall Apart" starts with:
Turning and Turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed on the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
-William Butler Yeats ' The Second Coming'
I'd love it if you had any thoughts to share about these quotes, if you did exactly that, either comment below or email me :)
"The person of prayer, quite simply is a person who can cry from the heart and laugh from the belly."
"If you understand (your circumstances) things are just as they are - if you dont understand (them) then things are just as they are."
"Grace leads us into our fears and voids, and grace alone will fill them up if we are willing to stay in the void."
"Give me your brokem, disfigured, rejected, betrayed body (like the body you see hanging on the cross) and I will make life out of it. It is the devine pattern of transformation and it never seems to change.
We'll still be confused (by things in life) but not so confused by our confusion.
We'll still have our little anxieties and fears, but not be so afraid of our fears.
We'll still experience weakness but will not be so weakened by our weakness."
"The most courageous thing we will ever do is to bear humbly the mystery of our own reality."
