Unfortunately I really have to seek out the time to do this these days!
I have never really had to force myself to have 'Amy time'...but I find with my course the way it is I really have to create time to breathe and enjoy the things in life I took for granted the last few years when, lets face it - a lot of my time had been spent having coffee with a friend, sharing my heart with them (and myself), picnicing, or sitting listening to music and allowing the depths of my soul to be explored.
I created several 'amy moments' this week - where the chaos was penetrated by stillness and space where I found parts of me again:
* This week I skipped a lecture (public health...which i think i am warranted to do, considering I have a major in it!) And lashed out, bought a magazine (Frankie) and a chai and enjoyed the moment! For an hour I felt like I was once again expressing an element of who I am that isnt found in medical school, the enjoyment of looking at pretty clothes, textiles and reading others thoughts drew me back to the realisation that for the past few weeks I havent been fully expressing myself - partly because of time and study constraints, but also because I havent made that a priority.
* I discovered I-Bethels Sermon of the week Pod casts (and I downloaded several and subscribed). Since moving to Perth I have been seeking for ways to express my spirituality that feels normal for me. I have found this a challenge as I dont have a church family here and I am lazy..and i feel like it is such an effort to find a church that I feel lead and free in (But I am aware that I both want and need this here - so need to get off my butt). However, this week discovering the pod cast made such a difference. In Adelaide I used to listen to Bill Johnson sermons in the car everyweek, and now I have found I can listen to them when walking around Freo or walking to uni.
* I love to cook, and with one of my Myer gift vouchers I bought some baking pans and this week I baked and It made me (and my housemates) happy
* Many phone calls and chats on the net allowed me to be real this week. Thanks to all who called, or answered their phones. It is incredible how much life and exuberance I have found in sharing stories with you, and in listening to your stories (as i love being apart of your lives). So good to know that distance has no ability to dissconnect hearts, souls and sisters & brothers.
It is amazing how refreshed I feel because I took time out to express myself and to explore avenues of my personality that cannot be explored through study, medicine, or time with friends here. I am a whole person and this week I feel more whole than I have felt for the past few weeks (not that I have felt sad, just very much like I have had a 2 dimensional expression of me, rather than a 3, 4 or 5 D one.)
things I have done in the past few weeks:
- Went to Merredin (3 hours East of Perth) for rural week with 32 Med100 students, stayed on a farm and had a ball :) A picture of the kids I went with is below

- Bought a skirt for $3 from the uniting church Oppy
- Studied the skin, Gastrointestinal tract and the stomach, looked at depression and Aboriginal children's health
- stuck my world map up in my room :)
- checked out Invisible children - and organised for my uni to join in with UWA's viewing of it
- looked in vintage stores
- watered the garden, and cooked with homegrown chillies, capsicum and basil
- smiled and loved life
love love
xx
